  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 3 Tbsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • vinegar - 1 tsp
  • cooking oil - 2 c
  • plain flour
  • red food coloring - 2 oz
  • beaten eggs - 2 item
  • box powdered sugar, sifted - 1 item
  • Add eggs and beat well

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream sugar and oil. Add eggs and beat well. Add vinegar and food coloring; beat well. Sift dry ingredients. Add alternating with milk. Add vanilla; beat well. Pour into cake pan. Bake at 350° for 30 to 35 minutes.Icing:1 stick oleo1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese1 tsp. vanilla1 box powdered sugar, sifted1 c. chopped nuts Cream oleo and cheese. Add vanilla and sifted sugar; add nuts. Spread on cake. Optional: Can use 1 cup coconut.
