  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • cooking oil - 2 c
  • plain flour
  • red food coloring - 1 oz
  • stick margarine, softened - 1 item
  • box powdered sugar, sifted - 1 item
  • Add eggs; beat well

How to make red velvet cake:

Cream oil and sugar together. Add eggs; beat well. Sift flour, salt, cocoa and soda together. Add red coloring and flavoring to sugar mixture. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Pour into 3 greased and floured pans. Bake at 350° until done.Icing:8 oz. cream cheese, at room temperature1 stick margarine, softened1 box powdered sugar, sifted1 c. chopped nuts Beat cheese and butter together; add sugar. Stir in nuts. Frost cake.
