- eggs - 2 item
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- soda - 1 tsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1/2 c
- sifted cake flour
- level cocoa - 3 Tbsp
- Adams butter flavor - 1 tsp
- "Adams Best" vanilla - 1 tsp
- bottle Adams red color
- Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and flavors
How to make red velvet cake:
Preheat oven to 350°. Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and flavors. Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring; add to first mixture. Alternately add flour and buttermilk. Mix soda and vinegar in small bowl; add to batter. Blend. Bake in 3 (9-inch or 10-inch) pans for 20 to 25 minutes at 350°. Let cool completely. Cover with frosting.Frosting:3 Tbsp. flour1/2 tsp. salt1 c. milk1 c. shortening1 c. sugar2 tsp. "Adams Best" vanilla1/4 tsp. Adams butter flavor Cook milk, flour and salt until thick, stirring constantly. Let cool. Cream shortening and sugar very well; add flavors.
