Ingredients/Components
- sugar
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- coconut - 1 item
- cocoa - 1 Tbsp
- buttermilk - 1 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening - 1 c
- all-purpose flour
- dash of salt - 1 item
- red food coloring - 2 oz
- stick oleo - 1 item
- Add well beaten eggs and vanilla
How to make red velvet cake:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add well beaten eggs and vanilla. Mix flour, salt and cocoa together. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Dissolve baking soda in vinegar. Fold into batter. Add food coloring. Bake in a greased and floured pan at 350° for about 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean when placed in the middle of cake.Red Velvet Cake Icing:1 c. milk dash of salt1 stick oleo1/2 tsp. vanilla1/4 c. flour1/4 c. shortening1 c. sugar coconut Cook milk, flour and salt over low heat until it reaches pudding stage, stirring constantly. Cool in refrigerator. Cream oleo, shortening and sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Blend into pudding mixture. Beat well until it looks like whipped cream.
