Pierogi
Ingredients/Components
- flour - 4 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- water - 1/2 c
- Potato Filling:3 medium potatoes
- slices American cheese - 5 item
- Sauerkraut Filling:1 medium can sauerkraut
- oil or shortening - 1 Tbsp
- small chopped onion - 1 item
How to make pierogi:
Potato Filling:3 medium potatoes5 slices American cheese1/4 tsp. salt Sauerkraut Filling:1 medium can sauerkraut1 Tbsp. oil or shortening1 small chopped onion Dough: Combine flour, salt, egg and water; mix to moisten, then knead until workable. Set aside.Potato Filling: Peel potatoes and bring to boil with salt; drain and add 5 slices cheese; mash.
Sauerkraut Filling: Drain and rinse sauerkraut several times. Place in skillet with 1 teaspoon oil and chopped onion and fry slowly until browned.
Roll dough and cut out with medium size cutter. Fill cutouts with either filling and fold over dough and pinch sides. Boil for 10 to 12 minutes. Serve over melted butter.
