  • brown sugar - 1 2
  • water - 1 2
  • nutmeg - 1 item
  • egg - 1 item
  • eggs, lightly beaten - 4 item
  • lemon juice - 1 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/4 1/2
  • ground beef
  • white pepper - 1 item
  • cooked rice - 1 c
  • cayenne pepper - 1 item
  • thyme - 1/2 tsp
  • small chopped onion - 1 item
  • unbaked 9-inch pie shell - 1 item
  • thick slices bacon, cut in half, cooked until crisp and drained - 6 item
  • thin slices Gruyere cheese, halved - 12 item
  • light cream or creme fraiche, thinned with milk - 2 c

How to make cabbage rolls:

Line pie shell with bacon and cheese slices overlapping to cover bottom of crust. Combine eggs, cream, flour, pinch of nutmeg, cayenne and black pepper. Beat well. Strain and pour over bacon and cheese slices. Bake in hot oven, 450°, for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 325° and bake for 30 minutes.

To prepare in advance: Line pastry shell and mix remaining ingredients together and refrigerate separately. Bring to room temperature for about 30 minutes before combining and baking.
