Pepper steak
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 3
- cornstarch - 1 Tbsp
- water - 1 c
- ginger - 1/4 tsp
- cooking oil - 1/4 c
- garlic salt - 1/2 tsp
- soy sauce - 4 Tbsp
- hot cooked rice - 1 item
- can tomatoes - 1 item
- medium onion, cut in 1/4-inch slices - 1 item
- medium green peppers, cut in 3/4-inch strips - 2 item
- top beef round or sirloin, 3/4 to 1-inch thick
How to make pepper steak:
Cut meat into strips. Heat oil in large skillet. Cook meat in oil until brown, about 5 minutes. Stir in water, onion, garlic salt and ginger. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes for round steak, 10 to 15 minutes for sirloin. Add green peppers during last 5 minutes. Blend cornstarch, sugar and soy sauce. Stir into meat mixture. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute. Add canned tomatoes. Reduce heat. Cover and cook until tomatoes are heated.
