Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1/4 tsp
  • flour
  • butter - 1 Tbsp
  • cold water - 1/4 c
  • lard - 1/2 c
  • pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • onion, sliced - 1 item
  • medium potatoes, sliced - 2 item
  • beef sirloin, cubed - 1/2 lb
  • pork steak, cubed - 1/4 lb

How to make pasties:

Combine first 4 ingredients and add water to moisten the dry ingredients. Shape into a ball. Toss together meat, potatoes, onion, salt and pepper. Divide pastry in half; roll into a circle. Put in pie plate, then filling to one side; add butter. Pull pastry over top to opposite side; seal edges tightly. Cut slits in top; bake at 400° for 45 minutes. Add 1 tablespoon water or cream in slits. Reduce heat to 350° for 15 minutes.
