Orange date cake

Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 2 c
• chopped pecans
• flour - 4 c
• soda - 1 tsp
• buttermilk
• chopped dates - 1 c
• shortening - 1 c
• orange juice
• grated orange rind - 3 Tbsp
• well beaten eggs - 4 item

How to make orange date cake:

Uncooked Syrup:1 c. orange juice2 c. sugar3 Tbsp. grated orange rind Cream shortening and sugar; add well beaten eggs and 1/2 cup buttermilk with soda dissolved in it. Add remaining buttermilk and the flour, alternately. Add orange rind, dates and pecans and mix well. Bake in large, greased tube pan for 2 1/2 hours at 275°.

Before removing cake from pan and while it is still hot, pour over it the uncooked syrup.
