Ingredients/Components
- flour - 2 Tbsp
- stick butter - 3/4 item
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- bread - 1 item
- cheese - 1 item
- cans water - 2 item
- cans consomme - 3 item
- or 5 large onions, peeled and sliced - 4 item
How to make onion soup:
Saut?© onions in butter; put in kettle and add water. Cook until tender. Add consomme, pepper and flour (mix flour with a little stock). Simmer 30 minutes. Place a piece of hard bread (can use toasted French or Italian bread) in a bowl; top with a slice of Swiss cheese. Pour hot soup over this; also if you wish, use shredded cheese and spread over hot soup before serving. Makes 4 - 6 servings.Recipe categories: Low protein, Low cholesterol, Soups & stews.
