Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 1 tsp
- water - 2 c
- shortening - 2 Tbsp
- all-purpose flour - 5 to
- warm water - 1/4 c
- grated Parmesan cheese - 2 Tbsp
- onion soup mix - 1 pkg
How to make onion bread:
Bring 2 cups water to boiling in saucepan and add soup mix. Simmer, covered, 10 minutes. Stir in sugar, salt, cheese and shortening. Cool to lukewarm. Sprinkle yeast on warm water in a large bowl. Stir to dissolve. Stir in onion soup mixture and 2 1/2 cups flour. Beat with electric mixer at medium speed, scraping bowl occasionally for 2 minutes. Mix in remaining flour, a little at a time, with a spoon or hands until dough leaves sides of bowl. Turn on floured board. Knead until smooth. Place in greased bowl and turn dough to grease top. Cover and let rise 1 1/2 hours. Punch down and divide in half. Cover for 10 minutes. Shape into 2 loaves. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
