Old fashioned jam cake
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
- eggs - 3 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- flour
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- confectioners sugar - 1 item
- buttermilk - 1/4 c
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- baking soda - 1/4 tsp
- allspice - 1/2 tsp
- ground cloves - 1/2 tsp
- softened butter or oleo - 3/4 c
- plum jam or any flavor preferred - 2 c
How to make old fashioned jam cake:
Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Stir together dry ingredients. Thoroughly blend flour mixture into creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in 1 cup jam until blended.Grease two (9-inch) round cake pans and line with waxed paper. Pour batter into pans and bake 45 minutes at 325°. Cool 15 minutes before removing from pans.
When completely cooled, spread one layer with remaining one cup jam. Top with other layer and spread top with confectioners sugar.
