  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • flour
  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • confectioners sugar - 1 item
  • buttermilk - 1/4 c
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • allspice - 1/2 tsp
  • ground cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • softened butter or oleo - 3/4 c
  • plum jam or any flavor preferred - 2 c

How to make old fashioned jam cake:

Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Blend in vanilla. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Stir together dry ingredients. Thoroughly blend flour mixture into creamed mixture, alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Stir in 1 cup jam until blended.

Grease two (9-inch) round cake pans and line with waxed paper. Pour batter into pans and bake 45 minutes at 325°. Cool 15 minutes before removing from pans.

When completely cooled, spread one layer with remaining one cup jam. Top with other layer and spread top with confectioners sugar.
