Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • eggs - 3 item
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • stick margarine - 1 item
  • nutmeg - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking powder - 1 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • allspice - 1 tsp
  • Karo syrup - 1 Tbsp
  • Wesson oil - 1 c
  • nut meats - 1 c
  • cooked diced prunes - 1 c

How to make prune cake:

Icing:1 c. sugar1 Tbsp. Karo syrup1 stick margarine1/2 tsp. vanilla1/2 c. buttermilk1/2 tsp. baking soda Mix and bake cake. Cook icing only until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Cook over medium flame for about 8 minutes or 10 minutes, stirring almost constantly. Pour immediately over hot prune cake so icing will melt down into cake. Top servings with whipped cream. Also may stir in 1/4 cup medium dry sherry and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.
