Old-fashioned bean soup
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- water - 11 c
- grated carrots - 3/4 c
- chopped onion - 2/3 c
- chopped celery - 3/4 c
- navy beans dry - 1 lb
- ham hocks pieces
How to make old-fashioned bean soup:
Rinse navy beans and pick out the bad ones. Place beans into the 11 cups of boiling water. Boil for 2 minutes; cover and let stand overnight. The next day, add salt and other ingredients. Gently boil beans in the same water in a covered pot for about 2 hours until tender. Add more water as needed. Remove fat, bone and skin from ham but leave the meat in.
