Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon - 1 tsp
- eggs - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- chopped nuts - 1/2 c
- flour
- brown sugar - 1 c
- evaporated milk - 1 c
- nutmeg - 1 tsp
- coconut - 1/2 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- boiling water
- shortening - 1/2 c
- rolled oats - 1 c
- white sugar - 1 c
- Meanwhile, cream the shortening with the two sugars
How to make oatmeal cake:
Pour boiling water over the oats and let stand for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, cream the shortening with the two sugars. Then beat in the eggs; stir in the cooled oats mixture. Sift the flour and other dry ingredients together and add to the batter. Stir in the nuts. Bake for 35 minutes at 350°.Oatmeal Cake Topping:1/2 stick margarine1 tsp. vanilla1/2 c. chopped nuts1/2 c. coconut1 c. brown sugar1 c. evaporated milk Melt the margarine and blend in the other ingredients. Spread on cake when it first comes from the oven, then brown under the broiler but watch it while it is browning.
