Marinara sauce
Ingredients/Components
- olive oil - 3 Tbsp
- large onion, chopped - 1 item
- cloves garlic, sliced - 6 item
- fresh mushrooms, sliced, or 3 small cans sliced mushrooms - 1 lb
- dried red pepper, crushed - 1/2 tsp
- can Italian plum tomatoes, chopped and juices reserved - 1 (28
- can tomato sauce - 1 oz
- sugar - 1 tsp
- dried basil, crumbled - 2 tsp
- dried oregano, crumbled - 1 tsp
- spaghetti - 1 pkg
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 c
How to make marinara sauce:
Heat oil in heavy large skillet over medium heat. Add onion; saute until tender, about 10 minutes. Add garlic; saute 1 minute. Add mushrooms and crushed red pepper; saute until mushrooms just begin to soften, about 5 minutes. Add tomatoes (cut up) and reserved juices. Cover and cook around 2 hours on low heat. Makes enough sauce for 1 package spaghetti. Makes 6 servings.Note: We make this quite a lot in the winter and freeze it. When you want spaghetti without meat, you have it.
