  • sugar - 2 c
  • milk
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour
  • egg yolks - 4 item
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • egg whites - 4 item
  • lemon juice - 1/2 c
  • grated lemon rind - 2 Tbsp
  • butter or oleo - 1 c
  • finely chopped nuts - 1 c

How to make lemon bread:

Preheat oven to 350°. Grease and lightly flour 3 (8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2-inch) loaf pans. In medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.

In a small bowl, beat whites to stiff peaks; set aside. In large bowl, cream together butter and sugar. Add yolks; beat well. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk. Fold in egg whites, nuts and rind. Pour into pans. Bake 55 to 60 minutes.

In small bowl, combine sugar and lemon juice. With fork, poke holes into loaves. Immediately pour over hot loaves. Cool 1 hour before removing from pans. Store 1 day before slicing.
