Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- eggs - 2 item
- milk - 1/2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- flour
- baking powder - 1 Tbsp
- chopped nuts optional - 1/2 c
- margarine - 5 Tbsp
- grated rind and juice of 1 lemon
How to make lemon bread:
Cream margarine and sugar. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating well after each. Add grated lemon rind. Combine flour, salt and baking powder; add to mixture, alternately with milk. Add nuts, if desired. Bake in a well-greased loaf pan for 55 minutes at 350°.Mix lemon juice with 1/2 cup sugar. Pour this over baked loaf after taking it from the oven. Cool bread in pan. Wrap cooled bread tightly, and allow to "ripen" for several hours before cutting.
