  • sugar - 2 c
  • milk - 1 c
  • vanilla extract - 1 tsp
  • salt - 3/4 tsp
  • chopped nuts - 1 c
  • flour
  • butter - 1 c
  • flaked coconut - 1 c
  • baking powder
  • fruit juice - 1/3 c
  • egg whites, beaten - 8 item
  • Add vanilla
  • finely chopped raisins - 1 c
  • finely chopped cherries - 1 c

How to make lane cake:

Cream butter until smooth; add sugar gradually and beat until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beating until smooth. Fold into beaten egg whites. Pour batter into 4 round 9-inch cake pans, greased and floured. Bake at 375° for about 20 minutes. Let cool. Spread Lane Frosting between layers and on top and sides.Lane Frosting:8 egg yolks1 1/4 c. sugar1/2 c. butter1 c. chopped nuts1 c. finely chopped raisins1 c. flaked coconut1 c. finely chopped cherries1/4 tsp. salt1/3 c. fruit juice Beat egg yolks slightly; add sugar and butter. Place in saucepan and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes or until sugar is dissolved and mixture is slightly thickened. Mixture should be almost transparent. Remove from heat and add remaining ingredients. Let cool before spreading on cake.
