Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- milk - 2 Tbsp
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- butter - 1 Tbsp
- water - 1 c
- white cornmeal - 1 c
How to make johnny cake:
Heat water to a boil. In a large mixing bowl, combine cornmeal, sugar and salt. Add boiling water, stirring gradually into 3 ingredients. Batter should not be too thin. Add milk and butter. Using a small ladle, pour batter onto hot greased griddle forming cakes about 3 inches in diameter. Fry until browned on both sides. Serve with maple syrup.
