  • cream cheese - 8 oz
  • eggs - 6 item
  • vanilla - 3/4 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • butter - 1/2 c
  • coconut - 2 c
  • soda - 3/4 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • powdered sugar - 4 c
  • margarine - 1/2 c
  • cream of tartar - 1/2 tsp
  • pecans - 1 c
  • maraschino cherries - 1/2 c
  • Add egg yolks one at a time

How to make italian cream cake:

Cream margarine, butter and sugar. Add egg yolks one at a time. Add buttermilk alternately with dry ingredients ending with flour. Add cherries, pecans, vanilla and coconut. Beat egg whites with cream of tartar and fold in. Bake at 350° in three 9-inch greased layer pans for 30 to 40 minutes.Cream Cheese Frosting:1/2 c. butter8 oz. cream cheese4 c. powdered sugar1/2 tsp. vanilla1 c. pecans Cream butter, cream cheese and powdered sugar together. Beat in vanilla and pecans. Frost.
