Ingredients/Components

  • medium eggs - 4 item
  • butter - 1 c
  • sugar
  • milk - 1/2 c
  • anise* - 2 tsp
  • orange juice - 1/2 c
  • flour - 5 6
  • baking powder - 4 tsp
  • Blend all ingredients
  • Crisco - 1 Tbsp
  • powdered sugar - 1 item

How to make italian cookies:

*Vanilla or lemon flavoring may be substituted for anise.

Blend all ingredients. When dough is easy to handle, take a small portion of dough. Roll in your hands to form a cigar-like piece of dough. Twist one end over the other and place each cookie on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes. Do not let tops brown. When you remove cookies from the oven, brush icing over each cookie.Icing:1 1/2 tsp. anise or other flavoring1 Tbsp. Crisco milk powdered sugar Combine Crisco and anise or other flavoring. Add milk and powdered sugar to make a thin paste.
