Irish soda bread
Ingredients/Components
- baking powder - 1 tsp
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- seedless raisins - 1 c
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- 3 c
- 5 c
- 25 c
- melted butter * - 1 item
How to make irish soda bread:
*Margarine can be used in place of butter.Grease an 8-inch layer cake pan. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in raisins.
Preheat oven oven to 375°. Combine egg and buttermilk and stir into the dry ingredients. Turn out onto a board with 2 tablespoons flour and knead lightly. Form the dough into a ball and place in the prepared pan. Brush with melted butter.
Bake 30 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350° and bake 20 minutes longer or until a cake tester inserted into the middle of the loaf comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
