How to make irish soda bread:

*Margarine can be used in place of butter.

Grease an 8-inch layer cake pan. Combine flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in raisins.

Preheat oven oven to 375°. Combine egg and buttermilk and stir into the dry ingredients. Turn out onto a board with 2 tablespoons flour and knead lightly. Form the dough into a ball and place in the prepared pan. Brush with melted butter.

Bake 30 minutes. Reduce oven temperature to 350° and bake 20 minutes longer or until a cake tester inserted into the middle of the loaf comes out clean. Remove from pan and cool on a wire rack.
