Irish soda bread
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 c
- salt - 2 tsp
- flour - 4 c
- baking soda
- or less - 1/2 box
- buttermilk or sour milk to make sour milk, add 1 Tbsp - 2 c
How to make irish soda bread:
Put raisins in hot water for awhile and then drain, if raisins are not soft. Sift together sugar and flour. You may substitute all white flour with 2 cups white and 2 cups whole wheat or 2 cups white flour, 1 cup whole wheat, 1/2 cup soy and 1/2 cup wheat germ. Sift baking soda and salt with flour and sugar. Add buttermilk or sour milk. Mix all ingredients well and then fold in raisins. Bake at 350° for 1 hour (maybe 10 to 15 minutes more).Recipe categories: Breads, Quick breads, Irish.
