Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 2/3 c
  • salt
  • cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
  • water - 1/2 c
  • vinegar - 3/4 c
  • dash of pepper - 1 item
  • slices bacon - 8 item
  • each beans, drained* - 5 cans

How to make hot five bean salad:

*Any combination of kidney beans, green beans, great northern beans, lima beans, wax beans, black eyed peas, or garbanzo beans may be used.

In large skillet, cook bacon until crisp; drain, reserving 1/4 cup drippings. Return reserved drippings to skillet. Combine sugar, cornstarch, salt and pepper, blend into drippings. Stir in vinegar and water, cook and stir until boiling. Stir in all beans, cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes. Turn into serving dish and crumble bacon over the top. Makes 10 to 12 servings.
