  • sugar - 4 c
  • salt - 2 tsp
  • flour - 8 c
  • oil - 1/2 c
  • soda - 8 tsp
  • boiling water - 5 c
  • raisins - 2 lb

How to make hobo bread:

Pour boiling water over raisins and soda; let stand overnight (use a large container). In the morning, add sugar, salt, oil and flour; mix. Grease and flour 6 (1-pound) cans (tall coffee cans); fill 1/2 full. Bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours at 350°. Cut wax paper for bottoms of can. Let stand 15 minutes after removing from oven. After cold, wrap in Saran Wrap and put back in cans to store or freeze.
