Hawaiian chicken
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 3/4 tsp
- brown sugar - 1/4 c
- cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
- water
- vinegar - 2 Tbsp
- ginger - 1/4 tsp
- margarine - 2 Tbsp
- chopped onion - 1/2 c
- soy sauce - 1 Tbsp
- catsup - 1/4 c
- cooked chicken - 2 c
- chicken bouillon cubes - 3 item
- can pineapple chunks - 1 oz
- instant rice
- green pepper strips - 1 c
- carrot sticks - 2 c
How to make hawaiian chicken:
Drain pineapple. Saute onion in 2 tablespoons of margarine until tender. Add water, carrot sticks and bouillon. Cover and simmer 5 minutes.Combine sugar, cornstarch and ginger. Add catsup, vinegar and soy sauce. Stir into vegetable mixture. Cook until clear and thickened. Add chicken, green pepper and pineapple. Cover and simmer 10 minutes.
To pineapple juice add enough water to make 2 1/4 cups. Bring liquid, salt and 1 tablespoon of margarine to a boil. Stir in instant rice. Remove from heat and cover. Let stand 5 minutes. Yields 6 servings.
