Ham bone soup
Ingredients/Components
- water - 2 qt
- bay leaf - 1 item
- black pepper - 1/4 tsp
- medium onion, chopped - 1 item
- elbow macaroni - 1/3 c
- carrots, sliced - 2 item
- sliced fresh or frozen okra
- medium potatoes, peeled and cut up - 6 item
- large cloves garlic, chopped - 3 item
- meaty ham bone with broth from a cured ham - 1 item
- cans tomatoes, chopped with juice - 2 oz
How to make ham bone soup:
In a large pot, add ham bone, tomatoes and water. Bring to a boil; skim off foam. Add bay leaf, garlic and pepper. Cover. Lower heat and simmer 1 1/2 hours or until ham is about to fall off the bone. Take out ham bone and remove meat; chop and return to pot. Remove bay leaf and discard. Add broth, onions, carrots and okra. Simmer 15 minutes. Add macaroni and potatoes. Cook 20 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Skim off any fat floating on top and serve.Recipe categories: Soups & stews, Pork, Ham.
