German-style red cabbage
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 tsp
- flour - 1 Tbsp
- water - 1 item
- vinegar - 3 Tbsp
- bacon fat - 2 Tbsp
- small head red cabbage - 1 item
- salt and ground pepper to taste - 1 item
- tart red apples, cored but not peeled - 2 item
How to make german-style red cabbage:
Remove outer leaves, cut cabbage in quarters, core and grate into skillet. Slice the apples; add to cabbage. Add fat, salt and pepper; bring to a boil with just enough water to cover. Reduce heat to simmer until tender, 20 minutes. Drain, reserving the liquid.Mix vinegar, sugar and flour with the reserved liquid. Cook, stirring, until thickened. Stir into cabbage.
