Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 2 tsp
  • water - 1 c
  • sage - 1/2 tsp
  • lean ground beef - 2 lb
  • poultry seasoning
  • celery salt - 1 tsp
  • ground pepper
  • medium potatoes, cooked and mashed - 3 item
  • large onions, chopped fine - 2 item
  • clove garlic, chopped fine - 1 item
  • lean ground pork - 2 lb
  • pie crust for 2 pies

How to make french canadian meat pie:

Combine pork, beef, onion and garlic in large frypan. Cook, stirring often, until meat is brown, then drain excess fat. Stir in poultry seasoning, salt, celery salt, pepper, sage and water. Cover and simmer 20 minutes. Uncover and simmer 10 minutes longer. Remove from heat and stir in mashed potatoes.

Prepare pie crusts and put half of mixture in each. Brush tops with beaten egg and make slits in top. Bake at 425° for 15 minutes, then lower to 350° for 25 minutes, until pastry is golden brown.
