Famous oatmeal cookies

Ingredients/Components

• vanilla - 1 tsp
• granulated sugar - 1/2 c
• water - 1/4 c
• soda - 1/2 tsp
• egg - 1 item
• shortening - 3/4 c
• all-purpose flour - 1 c
• firmly packed brown sugar - 1 c
• salt optional - 1 tsp
• uncooked oats - 3 c

How to make famous oatmeal cookies:

Preheat oven to 350°. Beat together shortening, both sugars, egg, water and vanilla until creamy. Add remaining ingredients and mix well. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 12 to 15 minutes. For variety, you can add chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate chips or coconut.
