Devil's food cake
Ingredients/Components
- nonstick spray - 1 item
- all-purpose flour - 2 c
- sugar
- cocoa powder - 1/3 c
- baking soda
- skim milk
- margarine, softened - 1/2 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- egg whites - 2 item
How to make devil's food cake:
Spray two 9 x 1 1/2-inch round baking pans with nonstick coating, dust lightly with flour and set aside. In a large bowl, combine flour, 1 3/4 cups sugar, cocoa powder and soda. Add milk, margarine and vanilla. Beat on low speed 30 seconds or until combined. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping sides of bowl occasionally. Wash the beaters.In mixing bowl, beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add 1/4 cup sugar, beating until stiff peaks form. Fold into batter. Pour batter into prepared pans. Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 350° or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool thoroughly. Frost between layers, sides and top with Chocolate Frosting.
