Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • cinnamon - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour - 2 c
  • cornstarch - 1 Tbsp
  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • oil - 1/2 c
  • cocoa - 3 Tbsp
  • baking soda - 1 tsp
  • raisins optional - 1 c
  • nuts optional - 1 c
  • cloves - 1/2 tsp
  • applesauce - 2 c

How to make french applesauce cake:

Combine first nine ingredients in a large bowl. Heat applesauce in oil and add to dry ingredients. If desired, add nuts and/or raisins. Mix thoroughly. Pour into tube pan which has been greased and floured. Bake 1 hour at 325°.

Note: I've made this several times for Charley Templeton's birthday and use the sauce from making crabapple jelly for the applesauce.
