Deep dish apple cobbler
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3 Tbsp
- cinnamon - 2 tsp
- water - 1/2 c
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- chopped walnuts - 1 c
- raisins - 1/2 c
- butter or margarine, melted - 3/4 c
- yellow cake mix - 1 pkg
- quick cooking oats - 1 c
- large apples, peeled, cored and sliced - 6 item
How to make deep dish apple cobbler:
Heat oven to 350°. Grease a 9 x 13-inch baking pan.Base: In a large bowl, combine dry cake mix, melted margarine, oats and walnuts. Stir together until well mixed. Press 2 1/2 packed cups of the mixture into bottom of pan. Set aside remaining mixture.
Filling: In medium saucepan, place apples, raisins, water, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally for 10 minutes. Spread cooked filling evenly over base in baking pan.
Topping: Sprinkle remaining base mixture evenly over filling (approximately 2 tablespoons of oats may be added if mixture is too thick to sprinkle well). Bake for 25 minutes, or until topping browns. Cool 10 minutes before serving, or serve at room temperature. Store covered in refrigerator. Can also be served with whipped cream as extra special treat.
