  • chopped pecans - 1/2 c
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • flour
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • cocoa - 2 tsp
  • chopped dates - 1 c
  • shortening - 1 c
  • hot water - 1 c

How to make date cake:

Pour hot water over chopped dates; let cool. Add soda when dates are cool. In a large bowl, sift flour, cocoa and salt together. Cream shortening, sugar and then eggs, one at a time, mixing well. Add date mixture and vanilla. Mix well. Pour into
