Ingredients/Components

• sugar - 1 c
• vanilla - 1 tsp
• salt - 1 tsp
• chopped nuts - 1/2 c
• flour
• butter - 1/2 c
• baking soda - 1 tsp
• boiling water - 1 c
• egg - 1 item
• dates - 1/2 c

How to make date cake:

Put chopped dates in boiler with 1 cup boiling water and add 1 teaspoon baking soda. Cream sugar and butter. Add egg and beat well. Add flour and salt alternately in thirds with water, soda and dates. Add vanilla and 1/2 cup nuts. Bake at 350° in a 9-inch square pan until done.
