  • oil - 5 Tbsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • pepper to taste - 1 item
  • dry bread crumbs - 3 Tbsp
  • turmeric - 1 tsp
  • large onion - 1 item
  • salt, divided - 2 tsp
  • medium sized potatoes - 3 item
  • finely ground lean beef - 1 lb

How to make cutlets:

Wash and boil the potatoes with 1 teaspoon salt until about half cooked. Drain; cool, then peel. In a large bowl, grate the onion and potatoes. Add the remaining ingredients. Mix thoroughly until a uniform texture is reached.

In a large frying pan, heat oil over medium heat. Shape mixture into 12 to 15 half-inch thick patties. Fry patties on each side, for about six minutes on each side, until brown. Serve hot or cold in pita bread.
