Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • flour - 1 tsp
  • water - 2 c
  • buttermilk - 1/2 c
  • egg - 1 item
  • pepper - 3/4 tsp
  • chili powder - 1 tsp
  • ground beef - 1 lb
  • can tomato soup - 1 item
  • onion, chopped - 1 item
  • green pepper, chopped - 1/2 item
  • corn - 1 c
  • corn meal - 3/4 c
  • melted fat - 1 tsp

How to make cornbread casserole:

Brown beef and onion in skillet. Add soup, water, seasonings, corn and green pepper; mixing well. Simmer for 15 minutes. Fill well-greased casserole 3/4 full, leaving room for topping. Mix together cornmeal, flour, sugar, buttermilk, egg and fat. Pour on top of casserole. Bake for 20 minutes at 350°. Topping will disappear into beef mixture and rise during baking.
