Ingredients/Components
- onions - 4 c
- medium head cabbage - 1 item
- green tomatoes - 10 item
- green sweet peppers - 12 item
- salt - 1/2 c
- sugar - 6 c
- celery seed - 1 Tbsp
- mustard seed - 2 Tbsp
- turmeric
- cider vinegar - 4 c
- water - 2 c
How to make chow-chow:
Chop vegetables. Place in a large container. Sprinkle with 1/2 cup salt. Let stand overnight covered with foil. Next morning, rinse and drain. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over vegetables. Heat to boiling. Simmer 3 minutes. Pack in sterilized jars and seal. Makes approximately 9 pints.Recipe categories: American, Vegetables, North american.
