Ingredients/Components

  • boiling water
  • uncooked oatmeal - 1 c
  • lightly packed brown sugar - 1 c
  • granulated sugar - 1 c
  • stick margarine - 1 item
  • large eggs - 2 item
  • unsifted flour
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • cocoa - 1 Tbsp
  • semi-sweet chocolate bits - 1 (12
  • chopped walnuts - 3/4 c

How to make chocolate chip oatmeal cake:

Pour boiling water over oatmeal. Let stand at room temperature 10 minutes. Add sugars and margarine. Beat well and add eggs. Beat well. Add about 1/2 of chocolate bits. Pour batter into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan. Sprinkle remaining chocolate bits and walnuts on top. Bake at 350° about 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
