Ingredients/Components

  • sugar
  • vanilla
  • granulated sugar - 1/2 c
  • milk
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • butter - 2 Tbsp
  • cornstarch - 2 tsp
  • baking powder - 3 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • shortening - 1/2 c
  • all-purpose flour - 2 c
  • dark brown sugar, packed - 1 c
  • unsweetened chocolate - 1 oz
  • light corn syrup - 1 Tbsp
  • semi-sweet chocolate pieces
  • egg yolks, slightly beaten - 2 item
  • semi-sweet chocolate pieces, finely chopped - 1/2 c

How to make chocolate chip cake:

Chocolate Cream Filling:2/3 c. sugar1 oz. unsweetened chocolate2 tsp. cornstarch1/8 tsp. salt1 1/2 c. milk2 egg yolks, slightly beaten2 tsp. vanilla Chocolate Chip Glaze:1/2 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces2 Tbsp. butter1 Tbsp. light corn syrup Heat oven to 350°. Grease and flour 2 round 8 or 9 x 1 1/2-inch layer pans. Measure all ingredients into large mixer bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low speed, scraping bowl constantly. Beat 3 minutes on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pans. Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until wooden pick comes out clean. Cool. Fill layers with Chocolate Cream Filling. Spread Chocolate Chip Glaze over top of cake.

Chocolate Chip Glaze: Heat all ingredients over low heat, stirring constantly, until chocolate is melted. Cool slightly.

Chocolate Cream Filling: Mix thoroughly the sugar, cornstarch and salt in medium saucepan. After stirring milk into egg yolks, add 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate. Add egg mixture into dry ingredients. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and boils. Boil and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla. Cool.
