Ingredients/Components
- butter - 1 c
- cocoa - 1/4 c
- water - 1 c
- sugar - 2 c
- flour - 2 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- buttermilk - 1/2 c
- baking soda - 1 tsp
- eggs, beaten - 2 item
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- powdered sugar - 1 lb
- dash of salt - 1 item
- chopped nuts optional - 3/4 c
How to make chocolate buttermilk squares:
Frosting:1/2 c. butter1/4 c. cocoa1/4 c. buttermilk1 lb. powdered sugar1 tsp. vanilla dash of salt3/4 c. chopped nuts (optional) In saucepan, bring butter. cocoa and water to a boil. Cool. Meanwhile, in a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, flour and salt. Pour cocoa mixture over dry ingredients. Mix well. Combine buttermilk and baking soda; add to cocoa mixture along with eggs and vanilla. Mix until well combined. Pour into greased and floured 15 x 10 x 1-inch pan. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes. Yields 15 servings.Frosting: Melt butter. Add cocoa and buttermilk. Stir in powdered sugar, vanilla and salt. Spread over warm cake and top with nuts, if desired.
