Cherry trifle
Ingredients/Components
- Cool Whip
- Amaretto optional - 1 item
- large round sponge cake - 1 item
- cans cherry pie filling the one that says "more cherries" on the label if possible - 2 item
How to make cherry trifle:
Cut up or break sponge cake into inch square pieces. Set aside 1 cup Cool Whip to frost top. Mix the remainder with enough Amaretto to taste, but not enough to thin the Cool Whip too much. Mix the cake with Cool Whip to coat the cake pieces.In a large glass bowl, starting with the cake mixture, layer the cake and cherry pie filling. I usually make three layers. Use the saved Cool Whip to coat the top. You can sprinkle the top with some shaved chocolate or chopped nuts. Enjoy!
Note: If you do not have a glass bowl, you may be able to use the plastic bowl the cake came in.
