Ingredients/Components

  • salt - 1/2 tsp
  • baking powder - 2 tsp
  • baking soda - 1/4 tsp
  • shortening - 1/4 c
  • all-purpose flour
  • low-fat buttermilk - 3/4 c
  • shredded low-fat cheese - 1 c

How to make cheese biscuits:

Preheat oven to 450°. In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda. Cut in shortening. Stir in cheese. Add buttermilk. Stir just until dough clings together.

On lightly floured surface, knead lightly. Roll into a 12-inch circle. Cut into 8 wedges and roll toward point. Place biscuits, point side down, on greased baking sheet. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes. Serve warm.

Yield: 8 biscuits. Fat: 2 grams.
