Ingredients/Components

  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • brown sugar
  • butter - 1 c
  • dash of salt - 1 item
  • light corn syrup - 1 c
  • can sweetened condensed milk - 1 item

How to make caramels:

Melt butter; add brown sugar and salt. Stir in corn syrup. Gradually add milk. Stir constantly. Cook over medium heat until 245° (firm ball stage). Remove from heat; add vanilla. Pour into buttered pan. Makes 2 1/2 pounds.

Chocolate Caramels: Add 2 (1 ounce) squares unsweetened chocolate after adding condensed milk.
