Caramel apple oat squares
Ingredients/Components
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- baking soda - 1/2 tsp
- unsifted flour
- firmly packed brown sugar - 1/2 c
- chopped walnuts - 1 c
- can sweetened condensed milk - 1 oz
- quick cooking oats - 1 c
- cold butter or margarine - 1 c
- caramels, unwrapped - 20 item
- can apple filling - 1 oz
How to make caramel apple oat squares:
Preheat oven to 375°. In a large bowl, combine flour, oats, sugar, baking soda and salt. Cut in margarine until crumbly. Reserving 1 1/2 cups crumb mixture, press remainder on bottom of a 13 x 9-inch baking pan. Bake 15 minutes. Add nuts to reserved crumb mixture. In heavy saucepan over low heat, melt caramels with sweetened condensed milk, stirring until smooth. Spoon apple filling over prepared crust. Top with caramel mixture, then reserved crumb mixture.
