Ingredients/Components
- salt - 2 tsp
- brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
- water - 1/4 c
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- Crisco oil - 3 Tbsp
- pepper - 1/2 tsp
- sage - 1/2 tsp
- ground beef
- cans tomato sauce - 2 oz
- thyme - 1/2 tsp
- large cabbage leaves - 12 item
- small chopped onion - 1 item
- lemon juice or vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- rice not instant - 1 c
How to make cabbage rolls:
Cover cabbage leaves with boiling water and let stand until limp. Drain. Combine beef, salt, pepper, rice, onion, egg and seasonings. Place a portion of meat mixture in a cabbage leaf, roll and secure with toothpicks. Brown in Crisco oil. Combine sugar, water, lemon juice and tomato sauce; pour over rolls. Cover and simmer 1 hour.
