  • salt - 2 tsp
  • brown sugar - 1 Tbsp
  • water - 1/4 c
  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • egg - 1 item
  • Crisco oil - 3 Tbsp
  • pepper - 1/2 tsp
  • sage - 1/2 tsp
  • ground beef
  • cans tomato sauce - 2 oz
  • thyme - 1/2 tsp
  • large cabbage leaves - 12 item
  • small chopped onion - 1 item
  • lemon juice or vinegar - 1 Tbsp
  • rice not instant - 1 c

How to make cabbage rolls:

Cover cabbage leaves with boiling water and let stand until limp. Drain. Combine beef, salt, pepper, rice, onion, egg and seasonings. Place a portion of meat mixture in a cabbage leaf, roll and secure with toothpicks. Brown in Crisco oil. Combine sugar, water, lemon juice and tomato sauce; pour over rolls. Cover and simmer 1 hour. Baste now and then.
