  • sugar - 3 c
  • vanilla - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 1 c
  • baking soda - 1/2 tsp
  • shortening - 1 c
  • large eggs - 5 item
  • plain flour - 3 c

How to make buttermilk pound cake:

Beat together the shortening, sugar and vanilla at high speed until mixture resembles ice cream. Thoroughly beat in the eggs one at a time. In a pint measuring cup mix buttermilk and soda. By hand stir the flour into the creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk mixture, only until smooth. Turn into 10-inch tube pan. Bake in preheated oven at 325° for 1 hour and 20 minutes or until tester comes out clean. Do not oven oven door.
