Ingredients/Components
- sliced cucumbers - 1 gal
- medium onions - 8 item
- salt - 1/2 c
- sugar - 5 c
- vinegar - 5 c
- celery seed - 2 tsp
- mustard seed - 2 tsp
- turmeric
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Cover cucumbers, onions and salt with ice and let stand 3 hours, then drain. In a large boiler, put sugar, vinegar, celery seed, mustard seed and turmeric. Let this come to a boil. Add the cucumbers and onions. Let this boil. Add cinnamon and cloves to taste. Put in jars and seal.Recipe categories: American, Condiments, etc., Vegetables.
