Bread and butter pickles
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- celery seed - 1 tsp
- large cucumbers - 6 item
- white vinegar - 1 pt
- mustard seed - 1 tsp
- turmeric - 1 tsp
- onions - 6 item
How to make bread and butter pickles:
Slice cucumbers and onions thin. Put in a plastic or china bowl in layers. Sprinkle salt between the layers, light on salt. Cover with a plate and weight it down with a heavy object. Let stand for 1 hour or overnight. Rinse and drain. Put all in a big pan and stir to mix. Simmer for a few minutes. Stir often.
